Booking & enquiries
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
A referral from your GP or specialist is helpful and is required by most medical aids for pre-authorisation, but you are welcome to contact us directly to discuss your symptoms first. We can advise on whether a sleep study is appropriate and help arrange a referral if needed.
How do I book a sleep study?
Call us on 039 682 4652 during clinic hours, or send an enquiry through the contact page on this site. Our team will explain the process, confirm what type of study is right for you, and arrange a date that suits you.
The sleep study
What happens during an overnight sleep study?
You arrive at our sleep room at Hibiscus Private Hospital in the early evening. Our technologist will fit a number of small sensors that record your brain activity, breathing, oxygen levels, heart rate, and body movement while you sleep. You stay in a private room and go home in the morning. The sensors are non-invasive and most patients find they sleep more easily than expected.
What should I bring with me?
Bring whatever you would normally need for one night away from home: your usual nightclothes, toiletries, any chronic medication you take, a book or device for the evening, and your medical aid card. Avoid caffeine and alcohol on the day of your study, and please shower in the evening so that the sensors stick well.
Results
How long until I get my results?
Recordings from your night are scored and reviewed by our specialists, and a full report is usually available to you and your referring doctor within one to two weeks. Urgent cases can be expedited — please tell us at the time of booking if there is a specific reason results are needed quickly.
Will the doctor explain my results to me?
Yes. Once your study has been scored and interpreted, the specialist will discuss the findings with you in plain language, walk you through what they mean for your day-to-day life, and outline the recommended treatment options. You will leave with a clear plan and a written report.
Medical aid & costs
Do you accept medical aid?
We accept most major medical aids in South Africa. Coverage varies by scheme and plan, so we strongly recommend contacting us with your scheme details before your appointment. Our team will confirm what is covered, what pre-authorisation is needed, and what (if any) co-payment applies.
What if I am paying privately?
Private patients are welcome. We will provide a transparent quote for the type of study or consultation you need before any commitment, so there are no surprises. Please contact us for current private rates.
Still have a question?
We are happy to talk things through before you book — no commitment required.
